Golden Wedding of Bryan & Wilma Taylor
During the evening of 30th December 2008, a special event was commemorated in the Legion Club Rooms, Junction Road, Kirkwall, when almost two hundred friends and relations of our Branch President, Bryan Taylor, and his good lady, Wilma, gathered to celebrate their Golden Wedding.
Bryan and Wilma had 'tied the knot' on the 31st December, 1958, in South Ronaldsay, Orkney. Their marriage has been blessed with two sons and in addition they now have six grandchildren.
Both Bryan and Wilma have been staunch supporters of the Royal British Legion Scotland for a great number of years. Bryan has been on the Committee of the Kirkwall Branch, having served as our Vice Chairman, Chairman and now President. In recent years Bryan has attended Highlands and Islands Area Meetings, serving as Area Vice Chairman, Chairman and President, also represtented the Kirkwall RBLS Branch at National level Annual Conferences. Wilma has also been an active member in Kirkwall and in recent years has organised the Old Tyme/Social Dancing.
During a most enjoyable social evening, tributes paid to them clearly indicated a lifetime of love, understanding, friendship and respect An excellent meal, prepared and presented by Clinton, was followed by a night of traditional social dancing.
Bryan and Wilma had taken the prior decision to request that no presents be given but suggested that anyone so desiring should make a donation which would go to a charity. The sum raised was £846.00 and Bryan and Wilma have donated the monies to Branch Welfare at Kirkwall.
All members of the Kirkwall Branch and Club thank Bryan and Wilma for their generous gesture. We wish them the very best of good wishes and hope that they enjoy many more years of happiness together.
